I don't know what the ethics committee would say about that but I do know that I have a vision of cross that is more MTB-centric = finish with the bike you start with. I know that is not how cross is over the pond where it originated but that's how I think it should be. Having two bikes and a pit crew favors the highly sponsored or "wealthier" riders in my opinion. I bring a second set of wheels that I have luckily rarely used...and I change the flat myself. I try to use/create a well prepared bike for any condition and i can usually be fine with one bike. A singlespeed fits that bill many times in wetter than Colorado climates...but my 1x9 with beefy 34mm tubies is pretty good for here.
